Very good article, as an emerging artist eager to make that next sale I know firsthand there is a great deal of original affordable art work in every style imaginable. And it's a good feeling to support up and coming talent, who knows someday your painting bought for almost nothing might be worth millions!

Yes, sorry for the outage everyone. I've been busy with weddings, baby photoshoots. I'm also working for www.camillesappeal.co.uk part time as well as looking after the girls. So all in all lots of juggling.

Do they do an open gardens event near you? It's a great way of accessing beautiful gardens and unusual flowers to photograph without having to travel miles or go somewhere too busy. Most garden owners are more than happy for you to photograph their treasured flowers (afterall, they're so proud of their gardens that they opened them to the public).

Yep, I think businesses are missing a trick if they totally ignore the competition. But I think you're already on to it - you've noticed their recent marketing which has to be a good thing - you now know who they're targeting!

I really do need to check up on my competition. I recently noticed one particular photographer has positively flooded every family outlet with posters/postcards - from childrens centres/play barns/dr surgery etc. I knew about her, but she wasn't actually very good last time I saw her (& her £10 sitting & home A4 inkjet print price reflected this). She has improved a bit and has clearly upped her marketing a lot. I offer a different quality of portrait to her, but not a dis-similar service on paper so I really do need to keep an eye on her...
